Christmas in Canada

Christmas is known in the wole world, nearly everyone celebrates it every year on the 24/25 th of December and spend time with their relatives, friends and family. Many countries, states have different Christmas traditions and in this article I would like to present Christmas traditions in Canada. Lots of Canadian Christians mark the 25 th of December as the day when Jesus Christ was born. It’s a day when people celebrate Christmas, exchange gifts and eat festive meals. In Canada so most shops and other public places (like school) are closed and people take a day off work to spend this awesome day! The "giving gifts" tradition is also different in each household! In some families "Santa Claus" brings gifts and puts them under the Christmas tree or in the Christmas socks. They open their gifts on Christmas Eve or in the morning or on Christmas day after lunch. A lot of people eat lots of traditional meals during the Christmas day. They start in the morning with eating eggs and ham or pancakes, for dinner they usually have roast or stuffed turkey, potatoes, vegetables and cranberry and/ or gravy sauce. When it comes to desserts popular ones are pumpkin pie and Christmas pudding. Fun fact time! The Santa Claus parade has been held every Christmas in Toronto since 1905. Almost 1,800 people take part in the parade, and about 500,000 people line the parade route. Cookie, or biscuit baking parties are very popular in Canada around Christmas. Cookies are baked and recipes are exchanged, and each person at the party leaves with a selection of cookies.
